2 Tim. 2:21 NKJV
"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified."
John 7:38-39 NKJV
"By your patience, possess your souls."
Luke 21:19 NKJV

Biblical definition, and revelatory description of "spirit"
~ruakh/pneuma -- the vital principle by which the physical body is animate; the rational spirit. The human spirit, and the soul, both came upon the breath of God into Adam's nostrils in the Garden when he was but dust. The spirit is the existential part of our being. It is generally what human beings are to God. Spirit is what life consists of in the entirety of all things. When born again, our human spirit is reconciled to the Father, and already made perfect. The human spirit fellowships with the Holy Spirit, receiving His communication, and increasing the capacity of reception in the 7-fold nature He has. As the capacity of the human spirit is enlarged, the soul follows.
Biblical definition, and revelatory description of "soul"
~nephesh/psuche -- The soul, is where we begin to believe the gospel. It is the power by which a human being feels, thinks, wills, and decides; the soul. The soul can house revelation, expand in its function, and release the Kingdom of God as it is continually set apart for God's purpose (The Holy Spirit, in the most righteous way possible, re-purposes our souls). The soul is the life of a created being. The soul was designed by God for everlasting life through Jesus Christ. Since the soul is the part of us that houses the function of desires, feelings, thought, and will, each of these then bridge in eternal life to the exact measure of the Father's desires, feelings, thoughts, and will; even to the aversions He has. Unique personality exists, and expresses itself from the soul of a person, this is where their unique color shade of personality is found. The soul is inward, and outward life; inner life possessed, and outward life expressed. As the capacity of the human soul (submitted to the Holy Spirit in fellowship with the human spirit) increases, inward knowing, and outward expressing follows. The soul is the 'matrix' of a being where things are developed and incubated, and nourished.

In 2 Timothy 2:21, the 'vessel' spoken of is literally translated to be defined as 'a vessel which contains liquid. He speaks of being thoroughly purged, and cleansed out, by personal participation in the work of regeneration, and sanctity which only the Spirit of Truth can produce in the human soul. If we 'cleanse ourselves' from dishonor, and the things which lead to it, God's word promises deeper sanctification in our souls.
Romans 8:9-11 & Hebrews 10:14 contains this biblical mystery of sanctification in our journey.
"You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you."
Rom. 8:9-11 ESV
"For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified."
Heb. 10:14 NKJV
Something about the finished work of the Cross where Jesus died, has made this a reality to our human spirit being perfected, (reconciled, justified, circumcised without human hands etc.) as the present reality within time in the natural realm is walked out in our souls. The spirit we have, in connection and fellowship with the Holy Spirit is eternal life, although our physical bodies were given over to decay from sin's effects and leadership. If we are 'carnally minded' we perish. But to be 'Holy Spirit minded' is life and peace.
As in John 7:38-39 (as quoted above), where Jesus prophesied about the connection between the Holy Spirit being given, and the following effect upon those disciples that belong to the LORD. The soul is where things are carried out, into the natural realm in real time, from the spiritual realm outside of time. The entirety of the Kingdom of God, is within the Person of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 14:17-23). Matters of personal faith are kept to ourselves with discretion at times, for a wise man conceals a matter which would prove a stumbling block to a weaker minded fellow believer. However, the matter of the Kingdom is not kept privately to ourselves. The Lord Jesus Christ, prayed that the world would see how sent His disciples are, and were from the inception of the church in Acts chapter two. He prayed this in John 17:20-23.
How then, are we answering the prayer of the Messiah Himself Who lives forever to intercede for us as a greatly exalted High Priest in the order of Melchizedek? For Jesus walked in the perfect relationship between Him, and His Father, Himself as a Son of man, and the Holy Spirit, fulfilling the book of Ezekiel, bringing a throne room ministry into the earth, proclaiming boldly "The Kingdom is at hand". He courted angels during His earthly ministry, He never saw a failure of misbelief as He cast out devils, cleansed lepers, raised the dead, and laid hands on the sick. Because His soul was truly sanctified, and understanding of the spiritual reality He was granted to walk in, as a Son of man. He walked in the inward marriage of human spirit, and human soul. This wonderful spotless Lamb without defect, purchased this very same inheritance for us. A priceless redemption, at the price of His own blood and broken body.
May we all take on the mind of Christ, coming to Him daily to buy wine, and milk, and goods without money. To know Him. To escape the carnal mind.
